Information for Coaches

Non-Faculty Coaches
Non faculty coaches are individuals who aspire to assist in coaching on the high school or middle school level. TSSAA / TMSAA and the Greene County Board of Education have requirements that must be met before anyone can be approved to be a non faculty coach. Non faculty coaches are either classified employees such as bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, aides, etc... or others who are not employed by the school system such as parents, guardians, etc...

Steps to complete before non faculty coaches can be allowed to coach:

Step 1) Recommendation

a. Principal submits recommendation of applicant as a non faculty coach to Assistant Director of Operations

Step 2) Courses required at NFHSLearn.com

a. Fundamentals of Coaching to be completed only once (cost $75.00 to be paid by applicant)

b. First Aid, Health, and Safety for Coaches to be completed only once (cost $75.00 to be paid by applicant)

c. Concussion in Sports( free, completed annually)

d. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (free, completed annually)
 
e, Covid-19 for Coaches and Administrators

Step 3) TBI Criminal History Background Check

a. Notify Lucy Ray in Central Office for appointment. Cost is approximately $36.00 to be paid by applicant. Current Greene County School classified employees are not required an additional criminal background check.

Step 4) Department of Children's Services (DCS) State of Tennessee

a. Background check completed by Central Office. Current Greene County School classified employees are not required an additional DCS background check.

Step 5) Verification of all requirements completed:

a. Applicant will be submitted by Assistant Director of Operations along with principal's recommendation to Board of Education for approval.

Step 6) When approved by Board, school will be notified and applicant will be eligible to coach.

Coaches Education Requirements

Coaches Education Courses through NFHSLearn.com

All classified employees and non-faculty coaches must complete required courses prior to coaching: "Fundamentals of Coaching" and "First Aid, Health, and Safety for Coaches" These two courses have replaced the TSSAA/TMSAA Online Coaches Training and ASEP requirement. Non-Faculty Coaches and Classified Employees who did not complete the ASEP Coaches Education courses (Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid) and pass the corresponding tests prior to May 15, 2013 are required to complete this training prior to coaching. The total price for the two courses is $150.

All coaches must complete the free Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest & Covid-19 sessions. Please print off certificates and give to your Athletic Director.
